Description: This dataset demarcates the boundaries of all privately protected natural lands in the state of Illinois. For consistency with other themes in common use, the polygons were, when possible, derived from property lines provided in shapefile format by County GIS Departments and Assessor's Offices. As such, the legal boundaries of the properties vary slightly from those depicted within the dataset. For this reason, the acreage of the parcels listed in the table will not always be identical (though it will be extremely close) to the calculated GIS acreage. The table contains, among other information, the organization which is responsible for the site, the type of ownership held by the protecting organization (Fee ownership, Easement, or Leased/Managed), the grantor of the property, the current owner of the property (when an easement), the date on which the land was acquired or encumbered as well as its size, any notes pertaining to the property, and the document number provided by the appropriate County Recorder of Deeds offices for the legal document transferring the property or granting the easement.
